About DailyPaul.com

Hello and Welcome to the DailyPaul.com!

This website is not officially affiliated with Dr. Ron Paul's campaign for president, but instead represents the efforts of a private US citizen - me - to help Dr. Paul in his bid for President of the United States in 2008. My name is Michael Nystrom and I am a freelance web developer, webmaster, and general jack of all trades.

Michael Nystrom with Ron Paul

I earned my MBA in international marketing from the University of Washington in Seattle, 1994. In the late 1990's I worked as a stockbroker during the tremendous late 20th century bull market. In 2000, I took up web design and worked as a web designer and developer in Seattle until 2003, when I moved to Taiwan for two years to teach English. In Taiwan, I started a financially oriented website, Bull! Not bull, which is where I combine my great passions: investing, writing and web design, and where I make part of my living.

When I heard that Ron Paul was running for president earlier this year (2007), I immediately set up this website (read more about that here). Honestly, I was a little reluctant to do it. Like nearly everyone these days, between work and family responsibilities, I've certainly got enough on my plate already. And running a website is a big responsibility. It's kind of like having a kid, or at least a very needy pet. But who am I to complain? Running a website like this is nothing in comparison to the sacrifice that Dr. Paul is making by running for President (!) and it is something that I enjoy doing. In the end, I simply had to do it. Dr. Paul is a true American hero, and indeed, a revolutionary. It was George Orwell who said, "In times of universal deceit, speaking the truth is a revolutionary act." Sadly, a period of near universal official deceit is what America now seems to be living through. And Ron Paul is doing the revolutionary - speaking the truth. As simple as it sounds, speaking the truth appears to remain beyond the ability of the leadership that this country has had for a long, long time.

This website nearly died a premature death. After the site was up for a while, not much was happening. It was only after Dr. Paul's eldest grandson, Matt Pyeatt found the site and started blogging here that I became reenergized, others found the site, and interest began to pick up. And after Dr. Paul's tremendous performance in the debates, things really started hopping!

How I Met Ron Paul
I wrote about this in one of this site's first posts, here: How I Met Ron Paul. Please read it if you have the time. The short version is that I have known about Dr. Ron Paul since 2002, when I saw him one morning on CNBC calling Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan on the carpet for the Fed's Enron-style accounting. It was a display of courage unlike anything I had ever seen in my life. What was so astonishing to me about Dr. Paul's performance was his tremendous courage and fearlessness in the face of Greenspan's power. Remember, this was at a time when Greenspan was near the height of his power, universally revered as an economic and monetary genius, beyond reproach. (They called Greenspan "Maestro" which is a fitting enough title, since he certainly managed to play just about everyone.) When dealing with Greenspan, most politicians would show great deference, bowing to his supposed "superior knowledge," not understanding a word he said, but thanking him profusely and gratuitously for his wisdom.

Not Ron Paul. When it comes to money and our monetary system, Ron Paul knows his stuff. He is certainly one of the most knowledgeable people on the subject, and as a result, he was never afraid to go head to head with the Chairman. For those interested, here is an excellent archive of their verbal exchanges between 1997 - 2005.

While I was originally attracted to Dr. Paul due to his honest and sensible financial position, his views on other subjects - most especially foreign policy - are just as clear. He is unique for being one of the few leaders today with a clear understanding of what has gone wrong with our great nation, and how we can fix it. To me, Dr. Paul represents our last, best chance to recreate America as the Land of the Free, as it was truly intended by our Founders. For more information on Dr. Paul, I urge you to read his 1988 book "Freedom Under Siege" which is available in its entirely on this website.

A Note on Advertising
Initially, I did not want to have any advertising on this site. I didn't want it to appear that I set up the site just to make a quick buck, or that I was trying to profiteer on the coattails of Ron Paul. However, as Dr. Paul's campaign progresses and more and more people find out about him, things are getting busier and the site is taking up more of my time. This is great! I love it! There are lots of people to be educated, and a website is a great way to do it. Those who read the message and hear it are certain to see Dr. Paul's wisdom.

But the truth is that there is only so much time in the day, so the more time I spend on this site, the less time I have to devote to other projects. (I'm a freelancer - see above for more info about me.) And a guy's got to eat!

By accepting advertising, I can spend more time both working on the site and helping to get Dr. Paul elected President in the real world. This is something I love doing and care deeply about, and I'd much rather spend my time on this than on some other project that I couldn't care less about, but have to do for the money. I hope readers understand this. Dr. Paul believes in free market solutions, so I see this as a win-win solution.

Currently, there are three revenue sources for the site. I have one performance-based sponsor, the Swiss America Trading Corporation, a company that sells gold. The great thing about this advertiser is that their message is in line with Dr. Paul's message of honest money, and the right of Americans to own gold.

If you're interested in learning more about how our financial system works, and about protecting your assets by buying gold, please support them and support us by taking them up on their offer.

The second form of advertising revenue comes from Google ads. I have little control over the ads that show up on the site. Sometimes you'll see the ads of competitors. This is a tradeoff that I think is worthwhile.

The third form of advertising revenue for this site comes from Amazon.com. If you click on the Amazon banner to the right, and do some shopping there, a 4-8% commission will flow back to me/the site.

Advertising revenue supports the continued existence of this site, and I am also using a portion to make hard cash donations to the campaign as well.
