Fun (and good!) Survival Planning Site

All the doom and gloom of preparing for whatever dire circumstances may soon befall us getting you down?

Have I got a website for YOU!

Go check out m4040.com.

Here's what you're greeted with upon arrival at this guy's site:

WARNING: This site contains views and opinions that, while intended to be humorous, may be offensive to thin-skinned imbeciles. If you are stupid, overly sensitive, or both, please seek professional help and/or get a helmet before entering my site.

[link] I UNDERSTAND AND STILL WANT TO ENTER

[other link] Oh my gosh... I'm offended already... please send me to some dorky harmless website instead

(if you click on the "I'm offended" link, it takes you to cutefunnyanimals.com.)

Once you enter, you'll find a copious (and I do mean copious) collection of extremely helpful information, put together with very fun and engaging rhetoric. You will find yourself smiling and chuckling as you put together the kits that will save your life in various types of emergencies.

For example, under the heading, "A Few Words on Mother Nature," there's this:

When I surf around the net, I discover abundant quantities of Birkenstock brain-mulch on the subject of nature, most of it being pure crap. When I watch the news, I hear about hikers dying. This is because many shrub-cuddling types out there have forgotten the truth about nature, and are now yammering on about how warm and fuzzy it all is. The truth is that nature can be a cruel bitch.

(...)

In summation, if you’re in a survival situation, the only thing you need to know about a spotted owl is that it tastes like chicken.

Not that the site substitutes for stand-up comedy, but the writing is personable, down-to-earth, sometimes quite humorous, and overall, full of good information.

There are some sections of the site you might not be interested in -- one section makes it clear that the site owner doesn't go for the truther view of 911, for example -- but I say, pull out the wheat and leave the chaff. Plenty of great info on guns ("Home on the Range" section), bladesmithing, and wilderness survival to be had. Ignore that with which you disagree (or, there's always that cutefunnyanimals link available...)

Yes, Backwoods Home is really good

Funny you should mention that site; we just started getting their magazines, including a nice thick book of their older editions from years past. Great resource.

Thanks to ignoranceiscurable for the link to that survivalist board -- again, a great resource!

But I can't imagine why airborne thinks the m4040 site is about Boy Scouts (or perhaps Ben Stiller?...)

Total BS site.
